An Intro to Trenchless Technology Short Course – New Construction Techniques & Rehabilitation Methods

This introductory short course is ideally suited for both newcomers to the industry and for anyone who is interested in seeking a refresher course on trenchless technology methods. The first session covers new construction techniques – microtunneling, HDD, pipe jacking, auger boring and pipe ramming. The rehabilitation session provides an overview of the methods available to public works and sewer agencies to rehabilitate water and sewer systems without the need for excavation.

Price: $95 member/$150 non-member early; $125 member/$180 non-member regular

Post-conference Seminars Wednesday, April 30 – Thursday, May 1
Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Good Practices Guidelines Course

The HDD Good Practices Guidelines course is geared to provide you with an in-depth overview of HDD from planning to demobilization and covers five topics:(1) HDD operation and application; (2) HDD equipment and materials including rigs, drill pipe, bits, reamers, and down hole tools; drilling fluid recycling and recovery systems, drilling fluids and additives and tracking equipment; (3) planning including surface and geological investigations, utility surveys, bore planning and regulations and permitting; (4) jobsite safety including planning and preparation, traffic control and safety equipment, practices and response; and (5) risk reduction, trouble shooting and mitigation. The target audience is contractors, public works and municipal personnel, consulting engineers and inspectors. The course is based upon the HDD Good Practices Guidelines manual, which provides contractors, engineers and owners with a set of guidelines to assist in successful HDD installations and operations. Course participants will receive a copy of the manual.

Price: $300 early/$325 regular

Wednesday, April 30 – Thursday, May 1
NASTT New Installation Methods Good Practices Course.

The key to any successful project is using the right construction method based on the project conditions and requirements. This course, which covers auger boring, pipe ramming, pipe jacking and the pilot tube method, rounds out NASTT’s new installation training seminars. NASTT New Installations Methods Good Practices will provide you with the information you need to determine the best method(s) to use under various project conditions. By attending, you will become familiar with the trenchless methods used for grade and alignment control and guidance; understand the constraints, advantages of limitations of each method; learn the steps to follow to “knowing the underground;” how to establish the invert for a proper launch; learn the history, sizes, equipment options, process of excavating through different ground types, pipe materials, ways to track where the pipe is, installation and jacking forces and ways to reduce those forces; and determine the best method to apply using actual case studies to illustrate what can go wrong if the project is not designed for success. The course is ideally suited for municipal engineers, utility personnel, designers, managers, owners and contractors.

Price: $300 early/$325 regular

Wednesday, April 30 – Thursday, May 1

Topics discussed include: asset protection, revenue/loss recovery, ethics and other ingredients needed to perform accurate and timely root cause investigations.

This workshop will explore: • What to look for upon arrival at the scene; finding and sorting out valuable clues • How to remain objective • Significance of witness comments • How to deal with your conclusions being challenged and maintaining your credibility

Price: $300 early/$325 regular

Thursday, May 1 – Friday, May 2
NASSCO Pipeline Assessment Certification Program (PACP) & NASSCO Manhole Assessment and Certification Program (MACP)

Administered by NASSCO, the PACP and MACP courses provide training and certification of operators, technicians, and engineers on understanding and implementing the PACP/MACP coding program, which serves as a standard for the inspection industry. The courses will provide a review of the history of defect coding and asset management, discussion of technical issues that affect the rate of deterioration and instructions on implementation of the PACP/MACP grading system. NASSCO is offering two full days of instruction, which result in PACP and MACP certification. Students may elect to take the MACP portion at no additional charge; previous PACP certification is required to attend the MACP portion. To register for this course please contact Heather Myers at NASSCO at 410-486-3500 or heather@nassco.com.

Price: $750 for PACP/MACP
